Rebuilding a Legend
The seeds of this project were first sown in
1999, when I moved from Tennessee to Wisconsin. I moved here
and knew very little about the state, so I started looking for
something that would interest me and draw me in. Being a
engineer by degree, the huge ore carriers of the Great Lakes
instantly became of interest & the more I read and learned, the more
I was drawn to one... The Edmund Fitzgerald. Like so
many others, this huge vessel of steel had struck a nerve...

FROM BUILDING THE FITZ TO MURAL IN THE OCEAN DISCOVERY CENTER
My Work on the Edmund Fitzgerald takes on New Role!
While doing research on the Edmund Fitzgerald, I saw an article
about the famed Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute visiting the Fitz's wreck site in 1994. The more I read, the more
fascinated I became, and I decided to contact Mary Clark, Media Lab
Director at Harbor Branch. I was seeking information on the
1994 dive and the submersible
"Clelia", which
participated in the dive.
What started with a simple e-mail and a few questions, became a
wonderful adventure!

Welcome to Great Lakes Graphics, the internet home of 3D artist &
educator, Matthew Duncan. We are excited that you stopped by and
hope you find something here on site that interests you.
Mr. Duncan has been working in the field of Technology Education for
the past 15 years teaching both middle and high school students.
During this time, he has helped students get excited about a wide
range of technical studies from desktop publishing to 3D graphics.
He has also taught courses in basic HTML & web page layout, 3D
Graphics & animation, and Photography - both 35mm and Digital.
While teaching, Mr. Duncan has also worked as the
Clintonville
School District web designer. This has allowed Mr. Duncan an
opportunity to showcase some of his talents while contributing to
school and community pride.
Along with a productive teaching career, Mr.
Duncan has also had a very successful personal life. In 2004,
Mr. Duncan took on the challenge of creating a website for the
non-profit group, "The Gibson Island Project." This website
highlighted the local groups initiative to purchase Gibson Island
and preserve it for future generations while also protecting it's
growing bald eagle habitat. In the Summer of 2006, Mr. Duncan
was brought a new challenge. Working with Dr. Jim Masterson of
Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute,
Mr. Duncan created a 8.5' x 10' interactive digital mural featuring
underwater research equipment employed by HBOI. This mural is
now part of Harbor Branch's educational displays at their
Ocean Discovery Center. Along
with these projects, he is member of the Fraternal Order of Moose
and maintains both his local
Clintonville Lodge website and
the
State of Wisconsin's Moose website.
In his spare time, Mr. Duncan is also a "Living History Re-enactor"
enjoying the time periods of American Revolution through the Civil
War and currently heavily portraying the Fur Trade period. He
is also avid fan of sports, a collector of vintage Volkswagens,
enjoys geocaching, and anything that gets him outdoors!

Over the years, I have been involved in a lot of different hobbies
and this has allowed me to use my creativity to create fun shirts,
props and other items! It's been a lot of fun and you can see
